Girls Just Want to Have Fun

Last night, a girlfriend and I saw the musical, Priscilla Queen of the Desert at the Lyric Theatre. For those of you who aren't familiar with Priscilla, here's the synopsis... two drag queens and a transsexual drive across the Australian outback from Sydney to the Alice in a bus they named, Priscilla. It's a journey of self discovery, fun, and show-stopping cabarets for the locals along the way. It was originally one of the most successful Australian made films and now it's a musical. So, what did I think? The musical is full of fun, disco dance tunes and amazing, vibrant costumes. The audience was laughing and clapping along the entire time and I found myself doing the same. I wasn't quite sure what to expect going in to it, but I was really, pleasantly surprised. I think if I saw Priscilla and didn't live in Australia, I would have missed all of the Aussie references. I definitely have a greater understanding for it having now lived in Australia for a while. Priscilla probably isn't every one's cup of tea, but the crazy, colorful costumes and the sing-a-long tunes such as I will Survive, Shake Your Groove Thing, and the like, make for a fun and interesting experience!
